That is what it looks like to upgrade and “future proof” your company’s internal network.
We are currently trying to find a local company to recycle all of that wiring. It is a little over a mile and a half, which is crazy when you think about it.
We are up-fitting a new space we acquired, and part of that process is pulling out the old cables and replacing it with newer, “future proof” cabling. We went from Cat5e to Cat6, giving us a higher internal capacity for transferring and working on large files from our wonderful customers.
The speed and capacity of the new cabling should give us a nice window of growth and equipment upgrading before the cables need to be replaced. We spent hours upon hours removing the thousands of feet old cables and even more time carefully installing the new cables. We want to be diligent and meet or exceed building code for the space.
If you have never pulled cabling, be warned: it is not for the easily frustrated. The cabling comes in boxes with a special coil inside, so the cable comes out wanting to curl back up on itself and find new and inventive ways to create knots, kinks and general mayhem.
The truth of upgrading technology, or anything else, it that often the pieces we upgrade are tied to other components that will upgrade in time as well. There are very few things in life that can stay unchanged and simply maintained for hundreds of years. Most of them are in nature; and, the few others are generally ancient religious (ie. Stonehenge) or art installations (ie. Love Statue in Philadelphia) that have no modern or practical function other than as historical monuments or for their beauty.
Pretty much everything else in life will at some point need upgrading or will need replacement in time. Homes need upgrading, vehicles need upgrading, cast iron cookware will eventually need replacing.
Knowing that, it is wise to think of “future proofing” less as an actuality and more as an increment. Upgrading or replacing should be seen as an investment in the next phase of whatever you are doing. Since we will always be influenced by society adopting new technology and information, from electricity to understanding of the human body, it is a good idea to prepare for what is the most likely path of future upgrade or replacement.
When it comes to the products we make and the services we provide, there will always be a creep toward the “new.” The effect of novelty on people means that as discoveries and inventions are made public, ripples will affect businesses in various ways. New guidelines concerning ingredients or components, safety measures or efficiencies are just a few ways that what we are doing now will be changed in time.
For labels and packaging, those changes will need to be reflected in their design and execution. How many times have the products and services you are offering changed since you began working on them? Have you had to change your packaging, marketing or labeling because of those changes. Of course you have. That is a great thing.
We want to help as many people and companies as possible set themselves up for success in navigating the coming changes in technology and information that are inevitable in the society that we live in. We want to supply custom labels and stickers that put people in an advantageous situation so that they are not put in a do or die circumstance.
Our use of digital printing equipment and library of flexible dies means that you can easily change your label or sticker as frequently as you would like without being trapped by costly plates or die cylinders. As guidelines and technology change in your field, you can alter your packaging with us. If the size and shape needs to change, we can help you with that as well. We have over 1400 sizes and shapes in stock. If we don’t currently have the size and shape you are looking for, we can order a flexible die for you for a much smaller fee than ordering a solid tooling die.
We are here to help you in whatever way we can. We are also always adapting to new technology and information. We strive to offer the best service and products possible.
