Frontier Label

Laminate Guide

When printing labels and stickers, there are several options for protecting that inks that have been laid down on the material. These options come in two categories – laminates and varnishes. We use only laminates here at Frontier Label. We have 4 options for laminates (and 3 materials that don’t use laminates at all) to go with almost all of our materials.

There are some stunning combinations for materials and laminates. One is when you put hologram paper and gloss laminate together. The look is really eye catching. Another is when you put metallic paper or plastic together with matte laminate. The subtleness of the look is really attractive. The lighter colors on the metallic that don’t have white ink behind them really stand out well. If you use gloss laminate with metallic materials, you may have some lighter colors not show up unless you put some white ink behind them.

Here are some explanations of our laminates.

Gloss Finish
This laminate is our most popular. This laminate gives colors a slightly richer look. It gives the label a gloss finish and protects the ink from rubbing off or smearing. It is used for all indoor applications.

Matte Finish
This laminate gives colors a slightly lighter and softer look and protects the ink from rubbing off or smearing. It is used for all indoor applications.

Gloss Finish – UV Outdoor
This laminate gives the label a gloss finish and protects the ink from rubbing off, smearing or fading in the sun for up to 5 years. It is used for all indoor and outdoor applications.

Gloss Finish – Printable
This laminate gives the label a gloss finish and protects the ink from rubbing off or smearing. It can be printed on with many thermal transfer printers after the labels are finished. It is used for all indoor applications.
